UT Environment Image Captures and Descriptions

Jobs' office space. The monumentally large and rectalinear shape of the space reflect Jobs' power and outlook on the world. He proudly looks out to the outside underneath his moving "keys" that are the main interface that he has with his work. The clean simplicity of the environment reflects Apples products like the Ipod and IMac computers.

The meeting place and elevator
Steve Jobs - the quarry space - reflects Jobs power - direct impact on society and the environment through his work in the production of electrical products.

Zhang Yin's environment that floats mystically above the bridge. It represents Yins power - indirect but still significant in the global scale.

The movement of the mystical forms represent Yins power and reflects the physical qualities of a falling peice of paper - twisting, floating, rising, falling.

Table

Jobs (simple rectalinear shapes on glass) on left, Yin (newspaper imbedded in glass) on right. The table is simple and functional reflecting the clients work in thier separate industries. The equal distribution of space brings the clients together on the same level despite thier differences.

A Bit of Inspiration - The Illawarra Fly Skywalk Bridging Structure

Went to this treetop walk last weekend and was inspired by the bridging structure and the way it allowed for me to gain a new perspective of the surrounding environment - from above. It was an incredible feeling looking down through the structure to the ground several metres below. One of the key aspects i gained from the walk was the sounds - The creeking of the steel construction and the rushing and whistling wind around the structure that intensifies and you climb higher into the sky. I decided i wanted to replicate this feeling in my Unreal design by applying ambient sounds to my environment that changes when you move from the outside to the inside environments.

A Bit of Inspiration - The Bering Strait Bridge

I found this video on the Bering Strait Bridge and thought it related well to this task - especially the part about connection asia with north america - therefore a connection between my two clients Zhang Yin and Steve Jobs. The bridge would have effects on thier individual power through improved communication and transportation of resources as well as the world on economic, social and cultural levels.

Mashup

Mashup:

Zhing Yin, the wealthiest self-made modern career woman in the world, is the founder and chairwoman of the label legend and fashion giant Apple Inc. Zhang defied financial hardships, brutal cheating business partners, murder of her brother Gianni and intimidation from local mafia to build up her wealth, bring innovative products to the market and pursue her dream of becoming a narcissistic perfectionist with a volcanic temper and a terror-inspiring taskmaster. Donatella’s wealth of 1.7 million euro gives her considerable power in the business world and is described as ‘excessive glamour personified’, the ‘empress of waste paper’ and ‘among the greatest business leaders of all time’. She brought a new sensibility to the house of Nine Dragons Paper Industries and leads the peripatetic life only the truly rich can achieve. What distinguishes Steve Jobs from Oprah Winfrey and JK Rowling is his total control of every single aspect and her low profile. What all these businesspeople have in common is their incredible focus and dedication to making a difference, to making a dent in the universe whether it be through fashion, the industrial or the commercial world.

it took a while to get used to drawing at different perspectives - as you can see i stuff these inital ones up completely by trying to keep the face front-on and not placing the vanishing point in a good spot.

UT2004 Image Captures

Outside: Steven Hawking
The environment outside the wall reflects Steven Hawkings quote: “So it might seem possible, that as we advance in science and technology, we might be able to construct a wormhole, or warp space and time in some other way, so as to be able to travel into our past.” The moving textures and simple rectalinear shapes reflect the motions of advances in technology and time and space travel.

Inside: Florence Nightingale. The environment inside the wall reflects Florence Nightingale's quote: “The object and colour in the materials around us actually have a physical effect on us, on the way we feel”. The differing materiality of walls, ceiling, floor, ramp and imposing cube are juxtaposed and proportioned to create the 'effect' that Nightingale suggests.
The minimal lighting creates contrast and heightens the experience to moving along the ramp from Steven Hawkings vibrant environment, through the central area and into the dark, cave-like interior.
The single shaft of light represents the inspiration for Nightingales ideas.
